NOI Dallas

Welcome to the official site of Muhammad Mosque No. 48

So, we are the Ministry of Arts & Culture. Most of us find it easy to define the arts. If anyone asked, we'd reply: "It's music, dance, sculpture, photography, theater, literature, etc."... & the list goes on and on. But, what exactly would you say when asked to define this concept called, "culture" ? How would you define it without looking it up to see Webster's or Oxford's version? We know that the current world we live in is a mixture of cultures. We know that it is also a diseased culture. In my opinion, before we can set out to correct or alter the present-day culture of our people, we must first have clarity as to what it is. So, I'm asking us to begin a dialogue on this concept now. It is my hope that we will soon be able to come together for a meeting/social and have an actual brainstorming or forum on the subject. Tell me what you think.

Salaam Sister!

Very good question, as I reflect on it, it brings to mind the words of our esteemed African Historian, Elder, Ancestor Dr. John Henrik Clarke. His words were used to define History but I think they define Culture as well!.."it is a clock that people use to tell their political and cultural time of day. It is also a compass that people use to find themselves on the map of human geography." IMHO Everything we do as it relates to culture should be a homage to our rich history and heritage. Culture should tell us who we are...where we are ...and where we still must go!

I am open to any dialogue on the subject and would love to help organize a social or meeting that will help
further our work in this ministry. I would like to see a joint effort between Dallas and Fort Worth!
In your response, you stated that culture defines, "who we are... where we... are and where we must go." I agree. The reason we don't currently know of our culture is because we don't know our history, thus our true selves. So, we are a stagnant people. A dead people. We shed no light or life. Which tells me why we have no culture; of our own. This is why it is imperative that we begin to reclaim and redefine our culture. It will not only define who we are, but it will determine the marks we leave on the annals of history from this point forward.

I too believe this should be a collaborative effort with the Ft. Worth mosque. I'm looking at the schedule and will shoot out some potential dates for the social soon. Thank you for your response. Spread the word. We're on the move.

Salaam!

Sorry for the late response! I just noticed that you responded back to me!

I too agree that we have no knowledge of self! I was apart of a collective of brothers here in Fort Worth.
We called ourselves R.O.O.T.S (Restoration Of Our True Selves). We saw the need to get our artists
back on the path of KOS(Knowlege of Self). Some of us from the group are still trying our best to carry
on that mission. What im trying to do now is as the Messenger said put a clean glass next to a dirty one!
I think once people begin to see a Ma'atic balance again, then we can take steps to restoring some of our
culture back namely music. I like to deal more with the Culture aspect, but i think we can begin to reach some..not all once we can show the alternatives. The industry has surpressed the TRUE artists..and it is those who I would like to work with! such as yourself!

So please count me in, I would love to work with you!...Lets Discuss!

ASA, Well, the fashion show is behind us and now it's time to move on to new adventures. I have had no other responses to my postings, so I'm not sure of the interest. It was my desire to have a arts social in the upcoming month of September. However, I'd really like to poll to see how many persons are even interested in the affair. I'll see if I get any responses, and then get back to you. Ramadan Mubarak!
